As if we needed an excuse to pamper ourselves and hop into bed early, here's three overnight masks that you can easily whip up and apply before jumping into your pjs and settling down with a book at 9pm.
Dry Skin: Coconut, Sweet Almond and Rosehip oil
Pop a teaspoon or two of coconut oil into a bowl and add in around 10-12 drops of sweet almond oil (you can also use extra virgin olive oil as an alternative) and 5-6 drops of Rosehip oil. Mix together and apply like a moisturiser, taking time to massage the mixture into your skin until you're left with a sheen of oil that you're comfortable getting into bed with. Rub a little into your hands too if they're feeling dry, this combination works all over!
Coconut is a lovely hydrating oil that when used infrequently, delivers a good dollop of moisture to dry skin. The sweet almond oil contains vitamins A and E (olive contains E and K) and these vitamins promote new cell growth and deliver antioxidants. Rosehip oil contains fatty acids which strengthen cell walls, preventing water loss and skin drying, it also boosts collagen formation from vitamins A and C.
Red Skin: Shea and Lavender
A super simple mixture, scoop a teaspoon of Shea butter into a little dish and mash until soft in texture, add 2-3 drops of lavender oil and mix again, then use the final mixture like a moisturiser.
Shea is a gentle, deeply moisturising butter, it soothes any dry patches and when mixed with Lavender, which is a healing and restorative essential oil, it'll treat those inflamed patches to a nourishing overnight drink. Lavender has both a physical and mental calming effect so the scent will help you drift off to sleep whilst the butter formula reduces inflammation.
Dull Skin: Coconut, Shea, Lemon and Argan
Mix together a teaspoon each of coconut oil and shea butter and mash them until they're combined into a smooth texture. Add 4-5 drops of Argan oil and a squeeze of half a lemon and mix again until everything is combined. Massage into your skin, taking care of your eyes - the lemon will sting!
Argan oil is mostly known for treating hair, but it also improves the elasticity of skin. Argan has lots of natural vitamin E which protects skin and enhances skin cell health, boosting blood flow and encouraging more of a glow. Lemon reduces pigmentation and delivers vitamin C which brightens dull skin.
