Ah those cooler, greyer and let's be honest, miserable, autumn days are now impending. British summer is beautiful, but it has that funny knack of switching from 25 degree heat and sunshine to highs of 12 and morning 'til night rain in a matter of hours.
For us, it's the hardest season to stay motivated, we're stuck between the thrills of summer and the cosiness of winter so it's absolutely the most important season to focus on your self-care. This can be anything from treating yourself to a hot chocolate on your afternoon work break, or sitting and soaking in a warm bath for an hour before bed.
If it's the latter, we've got a fantastic DIY relaxing bath salt recipe for you to try at home, read on:
• 1 mug of Epsom salts
• 1 tablespoon of dried Lavender flowers
• 1 tablespoon of dried Calendula flowers
• 15 drops Lavender essential oil
Epsom salts and the Lavender essential oil will be available in most health food stores like Holland & Barrett or Whole Foods in their beauty sections. For the dried flowers, try Acala, or perhaps your local bulk food store if it's a big one.
• Pop your mug of salts into a bowl or jar
• Add both spoonfuls of dried flowers and mix them into the salts
• Add the Lavender oil and mix again
• Run a warm bath and add in half of the salt mixture when the bath is about half full
• Sit in and relax.
Why Lavender? Lavender oil has uplifting and relaxing aromatherapy properties, but it's also great for soothing muscles, irritated skin and lowering blood pressure.
Why Calendula? Calendula has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties which makes it great for healing wounds, calming eczema and psoriasis and mood-boosting.
